Plastic Fact Sheet One
Polypropylene (PP)
Properties: Semi-rigid, translucent, good chemical resistance, tough, good fatigue resistance, integral hinge property and good heat resistance.
Applications: Flexible and rigid packaging, automotive Bumpers, cladding, and exterior trim, consumer products, and industrial uses. PP fibre is used in tape and strapping.
|
Plastic Fact Sheet Two
Nylons (Polymides - PA)
Properties: The majority of nylons tends to be semi-crystalline and are generally very tough materials with good thermal and chemical resistance. The different types give a wide range of properties with specific gravity, melting point and moisture content tending to reduce as the nylon number increases.
Applications: Nylon fibres are used in textiles, fishing line and carpets. Nylon films is used for food packaging, offering toughness and low gas permeability, and coupled with its temperature resistance, for boil-in-the-bag food packaging.

Plastic Fact Sheet Three
Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
Properties: Compatibility with many different kinds of additives - PVC can be clear or coloured , rigid or flexible, formulation of the compound is key to PVC's "added value".
Applications: Window frames, drainage pipe, water service pipe, medical devices, blood storage bags, cable and wire insulation, resilient flooring, roofing membranes, stationary, automotive interiors and seat coverings, fashion and footwear, packaging, cling film, credit cards, synthetic leather and other coated fabrics.

The plastics injection molding process is integral to many of today’s mainstream manufacturing processes. Industries such as telecommunications, consumer electronics, medical devices, computers and automotive all have large, constantly increasing demands for injection molded plastic parts. The injection molding process itself is a complex mix of time, temperature and pressure variables with a multitude of manufacturing defects that can occur without the right combination of processing parameters and design components. There are thousands of different grades of commercial of plastics materials with widely varying processing characteristics and complex part and mold designs are constantly pushing the limits of the process.
